 Horticulture Scholarship—Spring 2009

Carolyn George

Carolyn is seeking a 2-year Horticulture Certificate from Nashville State Community College. She takes 1 course per semester, which indicates that she will be in school about 2 more years. She accepted a $1000 scholatship at the October Meeting.

Carolyn’s Bio follows:
I was born in Nashville in 1951 and have lived in this area all my life. I attended M.T.S.U. for 2 years right out of high school majoring in psychology. After 2 years of school I married and moved back to Nashville. At this point I went to work for Geddes Douglas Nurseries.
This was in the 1970’s and Mr. Douglas and Bates on the north side of town were the only real nurseries around. I loved working in the nursery and stayed there for 4 years at which point I needed to increase my earnings so I went into the food service industry.

I stayed in food service for the next 30 years and in 2005 decided I’d had quite enough. I went to work for Mike Hayes and Assoc. in Franklin and have been working on my 2-year certificate since 2006 while working full time. I love plants and want to stay in this industry the rest of my working life.
